The UERÊ Project is a differentiated school with its own teaching methodology: UERÊ-MELLO Pedagogy; a pedagogy designed for children and young people with cognitive and emotional blocks, due to constant exposure to trauma and violence.
Located in the brazilian slum complex called Maré, in the Baixa do Sapateiro Community, UERÊ Project attends annually up to 430 children, of the community and neighboring communities, between 6 and 18 years old, who are in extreme poverty and social exclusion.
The UERÊs receive individual attention in this process to adress multiple learning problems and blockages in cognition. UERÊ Project has a high level of resilience verifying everyday specific strategies of cognitive development and educational interaction.
UERÊ Project has a high level of resilience, verifying everyday specific methods of cognitive development, while it provides 3 meals a day to these children (breakfast, lunch and snack), in addition to Formal Education Complement, with lessons of portuguese, mathematics, history, geography, science and languages, and workshops of music, brazilian dance, singing, violin and computer.
SCHEDULE: 8:00 as 16:00, em dois turnos (manhã e tarde).
All students must attend to classes on the community public school. The inscriptions are always held in January and July.
Other Projects
SCHOLARSHIPS
UERÊ Project created a scholarship program that allows its students to attend private schools and being in contact with other social classes, providing interaction of students from different realities. The scholarship covers the nine years of basic education and, depending on the academic performance of student the scholarship may be extended to high school and even through college.
Children and youth participating in this program attend Nossa Senhora de Bonsucesso School, where UERÊ children usually have the best performance in their class.
The program works as a sponsorship. Each sponsor commits to sponsor one or more students for at least two years and the cost of sponsorship includes school fees, uniform, teaching materials, transportation and snack.
In addition, from 2015, the UERÊ Project has partnered with the UNISUAM University, which will provide 20 vacancies to the best students of UERÊ.

FIRST JOB
Training in Hospitality - Apprentice Program
Youth from 15-18 years old of UERÊ Project can participate in a training pogram in hospitality through a partnership with Senac-Rio. These young people, during two years, learn the theory and are hired by the Othon Hotels for practice. The participants receive a salary and transportation voucher for practice hours in the Hotel.
Carrie partnership with Youth Career Initiave
Continuing to train young people to finish high school, they can be directed to the various hotels and partners in Rio de Janeiro that are part of the Youth Career Initiave, an international program of vocational education for young people in conditions of social exclusion.
