Community
Baixa do Sapateiro community is one of the communities from Complexo da Maré. Low wage families inhabit it. Complexo da Maré is comprised by 16 communities, and holds a population of about 110,000 people. The community is under constant tension with drug traffic gang wars and police conflicts. In Baixa do Sapateiro, the population is about 8,000 people, with 1,600 children from 3 to 16 years old. Projeto Uerê serves a consistent part of the children from 4 to 18 years old.
